“No Kings,”

Thousands of people from across the city and the region flooded downtown Saturday to participate in a “No Kings” protest against President Donald Trump’s policies and administration.

The New Haven protest was one of dozens to take place across Connecticut, and one of an estimated 2,500 to take place across the nation, in a mass single-day mobilization galvanized by opposition to Trump’s immigration and health care policies, among others. Police estimated that roughly 2,000 people attended New Haven’s event.

The city’s protest began as a rally on the Green at 3 p.m., and led to a march down Chapel Street. The event was emceed by East Rock/Fair Haven Alder Caroline Tanbee Smith, and saw speeches by a host of elected officials and advocates, including Mayor Justin Elicker, National Immigration Law Center President Kica Matos, State Treasurer Erick Russell, State Sen. and President Pro Tem Martin Looney, and New Haven Rising leader Scott Marks.
