History was made in Brazzaville after Georgina Kambongo was crowned the very first Miss Universe Republic of the Congo.
Kambongo earned this feat during the national competition held on September 12, 2026, at the Palais des Congrès in Brazzaville, becoming her country’s representative to the 75th Miss Universe competition in Puerto Rico.
The 24-year-old, who is studying Networks and Telecommunications while also pursuing a career in journalism and entrepreneurship, is bringing more than pageantry to the competition.
Her goal is to use the Miss Universe stage to grow her platform and use that forum to advocate for the diversity of Black beauty while urging young women to embrace who they are, as reported by the Daily Tribune.
Kambongo now begins a historic journey toward the upcoming Miss Universe competition in Puerto Rico, where she will join over 100 women from around the world to compete for the crown.
While doing so, she expects to introduce the world to her country, culture and advocacy.
Most importantly, Kambongo will use this opportunity to turn a milestone achievement into an enduring legacy, per the outlet. Her platform centers on advocating for representation and self-confidence while amplifying the visibility of African women on a global scale.
Kambongo’s history-making moment came a month after the Republic of Congo marked its 66th independence anniversary with civil and military parades in Brazzaville. A reception hosted by President Denis Sassou-N’Guesso followed the celebrations at Boulevard Alfred Raoul. The country gained full independence from France on August 15, 1960.
Kambongo’s story is also one of the new chapters in African pageantry. Recently, Snit Habteab Tewoldemedhin made history as Eritrea’s first-ever representative at the Miss World pageant after winning the People’s Choice vote for Africa and securing a place in the finals.
She finished in the Top 6 at the 75th Anniversary competition, which concluded on September 5, 2026, in Vietnam. Eritrea became the 185th nation to join Miss World in its 75 years of history.
