Lionel Richie readmitted to the hospital and receiving treatment for heart-related issues

Grammy-winning singer Lionel Richie has been readmitted to the hospital and is receiving treatment for heart-related issues. This recent health setback came after Richie, 77, was similarly hospitalized for heart-related issues. 

Sources informed TMZ that Richie is in the hospital and being treated for atrial fibrillation, a condition that occurs when there’s “an irregular and often very rapid heart rhythm.”

Richie is said to be undergoing treatment for AFib ablation, and the procedure is not deemed to be high-risk. Per Mayo Clinic, the procedure involves the use of “heat energy, cold energy or high-energy electric pulses to create tiny scars in an area of the heart.”

The clinic adds: “The signals that tell the heart to beat can’t pass through scar tissue. So the treatment helps block faulty signals that cause AFib.”

Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire are currently on their Sing a Song All Night Long tour. The Hello singer’s recent health setback has reportedly led to the cancellation of the tour’s three upcoming dates. 

The canceled dates include September 26 (San Francisco), September 30 (Chicago), and October 2 (Columbus, Ohio), per TMZ.

Richie has suffered health setbacks over the last few months. He initially suffered a mid-show health scare that resulted in his hospitalization on June 24, Face2Face Africa reported at the time.

Richie’s performance at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, on June 24 abruptly ended after he complained of dizziness and feeling “strange.” He was ultimately taken to a hospital where he received treatment. 

Richie was then admitted to the hospital after performing at The Muny in Forest Park, St. Louis, on August 29. Richie is said to have checked himself into the hospital out of caution.

Following his hospitalization, sources informed TMZ that Richie was undergoing an examination for cardiac-related issues. He was later discharged from the hospital.

Per reported accounts from witnesses at the concert, it appeared Richie was having some difficulties as the show neared its end. He is said to have requested a chair to sit down as he was performing All Night Long, which was his last song.
