Norman Verneil Evans Obituary

Jazz musician Norman Evans, 66, entered eternal rest on August 9, 2025, in Lanham MD after a brief illness. Norman Verneil Evans was born on August 27, 1958, in Danbury CT to his parents the late Willie James Evans and Peggy Evans-Minott; his family would later relocate to New Haven where he attended New Haven Public Schools.

Norman Evans was a two-time Grammy nominee in the category of Best Contemporary Jazz Album in 2007 for his album titled “Suspension”, and in 2008 for his Albums “Karma Blush and Twilight”.

While living in CT., Norman worked as a social worker for the City of New Haven and later served as the Town of Stratford’s Welfare Director, and the Program Director for the Grant Street Partnership.

Norman was the founder of The Journey Foundation and the Norman Evans Foundation which were community charities in MD that supported the underserved populations to help fight hunger in schools and communities.

Norman leaves to cherish his memory, his family members, friends, fellow musicians, and fans who enjoyed his music. Norman will be deeply missed by all who loved him. Norman’s legacy will live on through his music, and in the memories of those whose lives he touched.
