A nationwide day of action is planned for Oct. 17 throughout the country, with more than a dozen events scheduled for Connecticut.

Organizers include Indivisible, the 50501 movement and local groups like Newtown Action Alliance.

Part of the “No Kings” movement, the October events will be focused on rallying voters to get to the polls for the midterm elections. The theme “No Kings” is meant to protest the rise of authoritarianism and political violence in the United States, organizers said.

Organizers say they now want to “use our collective power at the ballot box for the future we want for our families, communities, and country.”

The events are also meant to encourage voters to take advantage of early voting, which starts Oct. 19 in Connecticut. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Find your polling location at: MyVote.CT.gov/lookup

Several of the planned events offer speakers and music and ask participants to bring signs encouraging people to vote.

In Hartford, participants are asked to gather on the South Lawn of the Capitol at 11 a.m. Organizers said they hope to “educate our community on why early voting in our state will help drive turnout across the nation.”

In Middletown, participants will gather at the intersection of Washington and Main at 9 a.m., and at 10 a.m., will march the four blocks to City Hall. Speakers and music are planned from 10:30 a.m. to noon, organizers said in the event post. Participants are encouraged to wear black and bring pots and pans for the march.

Prior “No Kings” events have drawn thousands in Connecticut, including a rally in Hartford in March that saw about 5,500 participants.
