HARTFORD, CT — CT Nurses United is organizing a vigil Saturday outside the Capitol to honor and remember an ICU nurse killed in Minneapolis last weekend.

The vigil for Alex Pretti, who was shot and killed by federal Border Patrol Agents on Jan. 24, is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. on the north steps of the state Capitol, organizers said in a social media post

“Join healthcare workers and elected officials to honor and remember Alex and all the people impacted by the violence of ICE,” CT Nurses United said in the post.

The event is organized with support from Working Families Power, Indivisible-CT, AFT-CT, according to the post.

Pretti, 37, worked in an intensive care unit in a VA hospital. He was a U.S. Citizen and had no criminal record, according to the Associated Press. The shooting is under investigation.

Connecticut officials have condemned the killing, calling it a tragedy.

In response to his death, and the fatal shooting of Renee Good by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents earlier this month, “National Shutdown” protests are also being planned for Friday across the country, with organizers calling on people to not participate in school, work or shopping that day in solidarity with Minnesota.

Friday’s events have been scheduled for 1 p.m. at the New Haven Green, 4 p.m. off Exit 14 on the Merritt Parkway in Stamford (on the highway overpass) and 5 p.m. at 46 State St. in New London.
