Those two organizations are CitySeed and Fair Haven Community Health Care.
They are two of more than 500 local nonprofits participating in the 17th annual New Haven “Great Give” community-wide fundraising drive, a 36-hour endeavor that is organized by the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven and that runs through Thursday at 9 p.m.
As of around 4:35 p.m. Wednesday, 6,359 donors had raised $1,569,960 for 504 different organizations. This year’s Great Give goal is $5 million.
On Wednesday morning, CitySeed sent out an email press release announcing that they were teaming up with Fair Haven Community Health Care during the Great Give “to strengthen and expand a model that connects fresh, healthy food with clinical care, putting more meals on tables and improving health outcomes for New Haven residents, especially those facing barriers to access and support. With a combined $48,000 in matching gifts, the organizations have the potential to raise $96,000 to support this effort during May 6–7 event.”
The press release, sent out by CitySeed’s Naseema Gilson and Fair Haven Community Health Care’s Maggie Moffett, states that this Great Give partnership “builds on a multi-year collaboration between the two organizations. Each week, locally grown produce sourced via CitySeed’s network of farmers reaches more than 200 patient families through FHCHC’s Food Farmacy, part of its broader Food as Medicine program, located on the third floor of FHCHC’s new health center at 374 Grand Avenue.”
Thus their collaboration this week to make keep that food-health partnership going.
“In New Haven, we know that no one can solve food insecurity alone,” CitySeed Executive Director Sarah Miller is quoted as saying in Wednesday’s press release. “Our partnership with Fair Haven Community Health Center grows not only our impact, but a culture of cooperation over competition that strengthens our neighbors’ overall system of support.”
“Our partnership with CitySeed allows us to get fresh, locally grown food to more patients, faster and with greater impact,” Fair Haven Community Health Care CEO Dr. Suzanne Lagarde is quoted as saying. “By working with a trusted partner and regional farmers, we’re able to move quickly from delivery to distribution at our Food Farmacy, getting food directly into the hands of patients who need it. It’s a clear example of what’s possible when organizations work together to meet community needs.”

Over the course of the Great Give, WNHH FM is inviting members of local nonprofits to take turns appearing on air, sing a song or recite a poem, then pitch listeners for donations. (You can watch the radiothon by scrolling down our Facebook page.)
