BRIDGEPORT PUBLIC LIBRARY INVITES READERS TO ‘LEVEL UP’ THIS SUMMER WITH POWERFUL, DIVERSE BOOK LIST

Summer Reading Program Includes Graphic Novels and Stories that Matter of History, Heroism

June 5, 2025 (Bridgeport, CT) – With the school year winding down and summer just ahead, the Bridgeport Public Library is excited to help children and adults of all ages spend their time exploring, learning, and having fun. Starting June 16, all library branches across the city will kick off this year’s Summer Reading Program.

This year’s theme, “Level Up @ Your Library,” invites the entire Bridgeport community to read, explore, and grow together. The program welcomes students aiming to stay academically engaged during the summer as well as adults planning to reconnect with reading. With a wide range of titles and resources available, the Bridgeport Public Library supports readers of all ages and levels in making the most of the summer season.

Here’s what patrons can find while visiting the library this summer: reading challenges with fun prizes, activities and events for all ages, and the chance to finally dive into books readers won’t want to put down. In addition, library patrons receive free access to online learning tools, eBooks, and so much more – all in a welcoming space with friendly, knowledgeable staff ready to help make the most of each visitor’s experience.

“We’re excited to launch this year’s summer reading program.  The list of books has something to offer everyone, no matter their age,” said Elaine Braithwaite, the City Librarian. “Reading over the summer doesn’t have to feel like homework, it can be something you love. I want to remind our residents that there is more to our libraries than books. Each branch serves as a welcoming haven in its neighborhood, offering engaging activities, resources, and a space for the community to really connect and grow… and it’s all free.”

This summer, BPL is also teaming up with Bridgeport schools to support students and educators through the break. Their collaborative mission is to avoid the “summer slide” while providing assistance and encouragement for students to keep growing and return to class ready to learn.
