Audit Of Tweed Airport Authority Shows Zero Issues

EAST HAVEN, CT — Despite a series of changes at the state level, Tweed-New Haven Airport Authority emerged from its recent audit with zero issues, according to the state Auditors of Public Accounts.

In addition to finding nothing of note to criticize in the fiscal years 2022, 2023 and 2024, the auditors said Tweed had corrected the lone issue in its previous audit of the fiscal years 2020 and 2021. In that audit, the auditors recommended Tweed contract for annual compliance audits.

In its 11-page report, auditors noted that the authority had contracted for significant upgrades to the airport’s westside terminal, traffic, circulation and parking in June of 2021. The following year the authority renewed its airport lease through 2064 and that the new agreement ended the operations and capitol project subsidies from the City of New Haven.

The state also provided Tweed with a $750,000 subsidy in 2022, but did not provide any operating subsidies in 2023 or 2024.

Auditors further noted that the authority had contracted with an accounting firm to conduct compliance audits in 2023 and 2024. The 2023 reported noted only that the authority did not have formal appointment letters on file for two members of the authority’s board of directors. That issue was marked as resolved. The 2024 audit did not turn up any compliance issues, according to the report.
