The late Gov. M. Jodi Rell will lie in state on Tuesday, Dec. 3, on the first floor of the state Capitol in Hartford from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., preceding her funeral service at Saint Joseph’s Cathedral in Hartford.

According to the news release, when Gov. Rell was sworn into office in July 2004, she held open houses for several days at the Capitol, providing members of the public with the opportunity to meet their new Governor in person. Allowing her to lie in state will provide members of the public with the opportunity to also say goodbye to Gov. Rell.

During her first open house on July 15, 2004, nearly 1,000 well-wishers – ranging from the elderly and young families with children to state employees and politicians – greeted her at the Capitol. Gov. Rell subsequently held similar events in Stamford, Danbury, Bristol, Middletown, New Haven, Waterbury, and Meriden.
