Just over half of adults in Connecticut approve of Gov. Ned Lamont’s job performance but are divided on whether he deserves to be re-elected, according to a recent poll.

Fifty-four percent of Connecticut residents approve of Lamont’s handling of his job, 36% disapprove and 10% neither approve nor disapprove or are unsure, according to a Nutmeg State Poll by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center. However, among Democrats, 81% approve of his performance, the poll shows. Among Independents, that number is 52% and among Republicans, only 11% approve.

The poll also identified that 43% of voters in Connecticut think Lamont deserves to be re-elected governor in 2026. That is up from 36% in May, according to the survey center. Broken down by party, 60% of Democrats, 40% of Independents and 10% of Republicans think Lamont deserves to be re-elected.

Lamont has not yet announced whether is planning to seek another term. He was first elected governor in 2018.

Less than half of state Democrats want other potential Democratic candidates like Attorney General William Tong, Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz or Comptroller Sean Scanlon to run for governor, the poll results show.

On state issues, a majority oppose a proposal by Lamont to use state pension funds to buy part of the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun as part of a plan to keep the team in the state. Six in ten Connecticut residents support Connecticut working with other northeastern states on vaccine requirements, the poll results show.
