During the World Cup, Jameis Winston, the 32-year-old quarterback for the New York Giants, participated in a popular Japanese tradition.
Serving as a summer World Cup correspondent for Fox Sports, the NFL athlete attended the Sunday, June 14, game between Japan and the Netherlands in Dallas, Texas, where he was observed assisting Japanese supporters with trash collection following the event.
Winston was seen in the stands holding a blue bag and removing trash from each seat in footage captured and shared by Fox Sports following the 2-2 draw. He was wearing a customized Japan jersey with his last name on the back.
“Shoutout to our FIFA World Cup correspondent @Jaboowins and all the Japan fans cleaning up their trash at Dallas Stadium,” Fox Sports wrote on X, which Winston reposted.
ESPN says Japanese fans have been cleaning up trash from seats after a World Cup since 1998.

North also told the outlet at the time: “In addition to their heightened consciousness of the need to be clean and to recycle, cleaning up at events like the World Cup is a way Japanese fans demonstrate pride in their way of life and share it with the rest of us.”
Before the game, Winston showed his support for the Netherlands’ fanbase when he walked out with the sea of fans in all orange. “THE ORANJE ARMY,” Winston wrote in the caption of a video he posted on X of himself with fans chanting as they made their way inside the stadium.
Meanwhile, fans shared their appreciation of his thoughtfulness.
One comment read, “Mr. Winston is a class act, one hell of a QB, one hell of a man and never forgets where he came from. Everyone can learn a lesson from this humble man. God Bless you and your family, Jameis.”
Another added, “Hahaha okay Jameis Winston is the GOAT!”
According to Talk Sport, the NFL quarterback shone on Netflix’s MLB debut in March, during the New York Yankees’ opening day game against the San Francisco Giants.
