With the minor league season nearing its end, let’s examine how some of baseball’s best young talent has progressed this year.

Prospects who could be called up soon

Prospects are the lifeblood of every MLB franchise, and they have never been more valuable. That was never clearer than at the 2026 trade deadline, when teams looking to buy fiercely guarded their top young players, effectively killing what was expected to be a seller’s market. 

Teams have always coveted young talent, but prospects are making an increasingly immediate impact in the big leagues. Our preseason No. 2 prospect Kevin McGonigle has been the Tigers’ most consistent hitter this season, while Cardinals second baseman JJ Wetherholt, Mets outfielder Carson Benge and Reds corner infielder Sal Stewart have all rapidly established themselves as key pieces of big league rosters. 

Several top prospects have graduated from this list since our last update, including previous No. 1 Konnor Griffin. With the 2026 draft and trade deadline behind us, the landscape has shifted. Our latest top 50 includes plenty of movement, a ton of fresh faces and a new No. 1 who looks poised to be a star.

Here’s a look at our top 50 prospects as the minor league season nears its close. A reminder that only players who retain rookie eligibility qualify for inclusion.
