Mary Wade Home’s longtime leader David Hunter has retired after spending 45 years working for the Fair Haven-anchoring nursing home.

See below for a Thursday email press release announcing his retirement. Amanda Pinto Regan of Iron String Communications told the Independent that Hunter’s retirement was effective as of Friday.

NEW HAVEN – After 45 years of dedicated service to Mary Wade Healthcare, CEO David Hunter is retiring. He is the longest serving administrator in the rich 160-year history of Mary Wade, the premier assisted living facility in the New Haven area.

“We are immensely grateful to David Hunter for his many years of leadership,” said Joanne McGloin, Chairman of Mary Wade’s Board of Trustees. “His impact at the helm of Mary Wade can never be overstated. His dedication to this organization, and to our community, resonates through our work: the highest-quality compassionate care, senior living, and wellness services our older adults need so that they can age with dignity and quality of life in a thriving, caring community.”

In recognition of Mr. Hunter’s 45 years of exemplary service, Mary Wade will be honoring him with a retirement party.

Bruce Topolosky – an experienced national and international healthcare executive who served on Mary Wade’s Board for nine years – has resigned his position on the Board. Mr. Topolosky will serve as Interim CEO as we prepare for a full, nationwide search for a CEO to lead us through our next chapter.

“We are tremendously proud of Mary Wade, our legacy, and the strong bonds we’ve built with our families, staff, partners, and surrounding community,” said Mary Wade’s Interim CEO Bruce Topolosky. “Our commitment to those we serve is steadfast, unwavering, and remains central to every decision we make as we continue Mary Wade’s proud tradition of excellent service in the years and decades ahead.”
