Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont has won re-election to a third term against Republican state Sen. Ryan Fazio, according to the Associated Press.

Lamont led the other constitutional officers — Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz, Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas, Attorney General William Tong, Comptroller Sean Scanlon, and Treasurer Erick Russell — to victories in their respective races.

Additionally, Democrats held onto all five seats in the House of Representatives, with newcomer Luke Bronin winning in the 1st District.

Lamont, who won with just over 58% of the vote according to the Associated Press, said the vote total was “a statement of confidence” about where his administration has led the state and where he intends to lead it next.

“Look, we got into office almost eight years ago, it was a little dodgy,” he told supporters. “We were looking at deficits, then we were looking at COVID, then we’re looking at Donald Trump. I think despite all that, we’re in a better place today than we were eight years ago thanks to each and every one of you standing up.”

He went on to say that it wasn’t enough to be against President Donald Trump. State government had to be for the people of Connecticut.

“I need each and every one of you to be a champion for the state, standing up every day,” he said. “I love this state for who we are. I love this state for our values, what we stand for.”

The celebration kicked off shortly after 9:00 PM. Roberto Alves, mayor of Danbury and chair of the state Democratic Party, said the state sent a strong message to the rest of the nation.

“I say it all the time, how lucky am I to be a Democrat in Connecticut?” Alves asked to cheers from a standing room only crowd. “Connecticut, we are stronger together. Connecticut, tonight we show the country that we know what it’s like to win
