Nara Smith announced that her 2-year-old daughter, Whimsy Lou, has been diagnosed with cancer. In an Instagram Reel posted on Wednesday, July 1, the 24-year-old content creator shared how she and her husband, Lucky Blue Smith, 28, discovered their daughter’s illness “late last year.” Nara did not disclose the specific type of cancer affecting Whimsy or her current health status.
“When we saw something suspicious on her, we took her to the ER and they didn’t quite know what to make of it,” said the ‘Homemade’ cookbook author in her video. “When we took her into our pediatrician, I just remember him going really quiet and calm … My heart dropped in that moment. I don’t know whether it was my gut telling me something or just a mom’s intuition, but the first thing that I felt was she has cancer.”
The mother of four revealed that Lucky took their daughter to the nearest children’s hospital based on the pediatrician’s advice.
She recalled, “After a lot of X-rays, ultrasounds, and finally a biopsy, they immediately called us and said she had cancer, that it had spread, and that she needed to come in and start chemo treatments right away.”
In her video sharing the news about Whimsy’s diagnosis, Nara shared how it has helped her to talk to other parents and families who are going through similar things: “All of that combined really brought me a lot of comfort and alleviated the feeling of loneliness for me,” she said. “Processing this and navigating all of this as a family has been really hard.”
She added, “A lot of you have probably realized that I’ve been posting a little less and this is the reason why. Having found all of this out and navigating this while postpartum, also loving and caring for our other kids at home, also being in the hospital with Whimsy a lot and balancing work on top of that has been really challenging.”
Finding a balance is something the model said she battles “on a daily basis.” “Some days are a little easier, some days are really hard, and all I can do is try my best and show up in all those areas in the best way that I can.”
Additionally, Nara explained that she hopes the video will comfort others and “even incentivize you to go get something checked out that you’ve been avoiding.”
Apart from Whimsy, Nara and Lucky also have a 5-year-old daughter named Rumble Honey, a 4-year-old son named Slim Easy, and a September 2025-born daughter named Fawnie Golden. In addition, Lucky and model Stormi Bree have a daughter named Gravity.
Nara first gained a large following for her TikTok videos, where she usually cooks meals and desserts from scratch for her family. She’s also been candid about her experience as a young mother raising several children close in age over the years.
Nara has previously stated that she loved growing up with her kids and that she always wanted to be a young mother, according to People magazine. Although a significant portion of her online content is about her family, she has kept personal medical issues private up until now.
