Hundreds of people gathered downtown Friday evening to watch bike races and eat (and dress up as) pieces of pizza.
Independent photographer Chris Volpe was on the scene. See above and below for his photos from the 11th annual A-1 Toyota Apizza Feast and New Haven Grand Prix, which also featured an attempt by the city to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Food.
According to Taste of New Haven’s Colin Caplan, 778 people participated in Friday’s pizza costume party on the Green — coming up 110 people short of the Guinness title. Even though the city didn’t break a world record this year, Caplan noted in a text message, “I think the world smiled on us with the most beautiful sunset & a massive rainbow!”
