Senegalese TikToker Khaby Lame has been appointed an ambassador for the upcoming Youth Olympics, set to be staged in Dakar this year, as announced by the International Olympic Committee.

Lame, known globally for his viral silent comedy sketches on TikTok, will lend his immense popularity to promote the event. According to the organizers, Lame will participate in the event’s highlights, notably the Torch Relay, which will arrive in Dakar on September 12.

“This commitment reflects my desire to support young African talent, in sports and far beyond. Dakar 2026 will offer our continent the opportunity to reveal its best and inspire young people in Africa and around the world. It is an opportunity to demonstrate that, beyond its resilience, Africa is also a force. I am proud to be Senegalese, proud to be African, and we will make this first Olympic event in Africa a complete success,” the influencer said, according to Africa News.

The IOC and the Dakar 2026 organising committee said Lame “doesn’t need words to be understood” as they highlighted his “iconic gesture” (palms open and facing upward) as a symbol of simplicity that aligns with the Youth Olympic Games’ mission to be inclusive and straightforward.

The content creator, who boasts 160.5 million TikTok followers, is expected to play a major part in promoting the Games, particularly to younger audiences. His participation is predicted to generate exceptional digital engagement metrics for a Youth Olympic event. In other words, he will help boost the social and inclusive reach of Dakar 2026, notably by encouraging the involvement of young people from various locations, including his birthplace, Mbacké.

This involvement could establish a new standard for how major sporting festivals utilize ambassadorships led by content creators.

Dakar 2026 has consistently shown its capacity to collaborate with influential global figures, and this latest partnership powerfully reflects that ambition.

Approximately 2,700 athletes, aged 17 and under, are expected to participate in the Youth Olympic Games. The event is scheduled to take place across three host locations—Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly—from October 31 to November 13, 2026.

Olympics.com reports that this is not the influencer’s first foray into the sports world. He has already collaborated with some of the biggest names in sport, including footballers Neymar and Sergio Agüero, Vinícius Júnior, and Zlatan Ibrahimović.

Over a year ago, Lame was appointed as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. Following his appointment, the influencer addressed young people in his native country.

He said, “It’s a true honor to be appointed as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador and be part of an organization that puts children’s rights front and center every day. From my own experience—growing up with financial struggles, feeling lost in school, and facing unemployment during the pandemic—to finally finding my purpose, I know that all children can thrive when given the right opportunities.”

Lame also encouraged them to remain hopeful and determined: “Dream big. Do your best to accomplish your goals, even if others say you can’t.”
