CT Adds Another Culinary Tourism Trail As TV Chefs Join Pizza And Oysters

STAMFORD, CT — Having trolled New York with claims of being the pizza capital of the country, Gov. Ned Lamont took aim at a couple of Connecticut’s fellow New England states before laying down the gauntlet to the City of Light Monday in a tongue-in-cheek series of boasts about tourism in Connecticut.

“Maine’s got lobster, but we have the lobster roll,” Lamont said at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center. “You don’t have to go to Vermont for foliage, you can look right here.”

Lamont, speaking at an event introducing the Connecticut TV-to-Table Trail, went on the declare Connecticut the foodie capital of the world.

“Sorry about that, Paris,” he said.

Modeled after the state’s pizza trail, the TV-to-Table Trail is a state culinary tourism experience featuring Connecticut chefs and restaurants that have appeared on national food television programs.

“There is incredible talent here, and I’m excited for people to experience it firsthand,” said James Beard Award-winning chef Scott Conant, a Waterbury native and Food Network personality.

Conant, who said his mother still lives in Waterbury, declared Connecticut his forever home.

“So being part of a trail that celebrates the chefs and restaurants putting this state on the national culinary map is especially meaningful,” he said.
