Bridgeport, CT – Bridgeport Public Schools will host its 43rd Annual Math Meet on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the University of Bridgeport, Charles A. Dana Hall, Room 107, located at 169 University Avenue in Bridgeport.
The district’s longest-running academic competition will bring together 132 students representing all 22 middle schools for a day focused on problem-solving, teamwork, and academic achievement.
Students will compete in a timed mathematics competition designed to challenge their critical thinking and reasoning skills. Using only pencils and basic four-function calculators, students will solve rigorous math problems, with scores determining both individual and team rankings.
“The Math Meet is one of those events that truly brings out the best in our students,” said Dr. Royce Avery. “To see students from across Bridgeport come together, challenge themselves, and support one another through academics is something special. Our students continue to show what they are capable of when they are encouraged, supported, and given opportunities to shine.”
“Holding this event each year continues a tradition that celebrates curiosity, perseverance, and the excitement of learning,” said Herminio Planas. “The Math Meet gives students an opportunity to showcase their abilities while inspiring confidence and a deeper appreciation for mathematics.”
Established in the 1980s, the Bridgeport Math Meet was created to inspire students through meaningful problem-solving while exposing them to a university setting and promoting college aspirations. What began with just 10 schools has grown into a districtwide tradition involving every middle school across Bridgeport Public Schools.
The event will run from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and conclude with an awards ceremony recognizing top-performing students, the top three schools overall, and the district’s most improved school. The championship banner, passed among winning schools for more than four decades, will once again be awarded to this year’s first-place team.
