Stackable Certifications and Micro-credentials Further Prepare Albertus Graduates with Employer-desired Skills
New Haven, Conn., April 3, 2023 – As its 97th year nears completion, Albertus Magnus College is once again answering a call rooted in its mission, to deliver an education that is “practical in its application” and “responds to the academic needs of its student body.” The new Albertus Career eXcelerator program will help the College’s graduates to be even more prepared for immediate and long-term career success thanks to short, stackable, certifications and microcredentials,
which will be available to Albertus full-time students at no additional cost. Career eXcelerator builds on the College’s time-tested values- and liberal arts-based curricula that are defined by interdisciplinary and experiential learning opportunities, availing students with self-paced, online mini courses offered through Coursera and featuring employer-desired skills and credentials. Albertus is the first college in Connecticut to bring the Coursera-based programs to its students, and Albertus Career eXcelerator courses will be taught by industry experts from corporations
such as Goodwill, Google, IBM, Intuit, Meta, Salesforce, SAP, and Tally.
“The Albertus Career eXcelerator program is both mission-centric and market-responsive, continuing a nearly centurylong legacy of preparing the College’s graduates for a lifetime of civic engagement and career success,” said Albertus President, Dr. Marc M. Camille, who recently announced the offerings on WTNH-TV. “Through our annual alumni surveys, we know that Albertus graduates are achieving early success upon graduation, and external research has revealed that over the course of a career, the value of an Albertus Magnus College degree grows even stronger. This new initiative is equally exciting and empowering.”
Students who graduate from Albertus Magnus College benefit from a distinctive education delivered by talented,
dedicated faculty and staff focused on students’ individual, holistic success. While annual and longitudinal data verify the value of an Albertus degree, the new Albertus Career eXcelerator program will add further value. Each year the Albertus Career and Professional Development team surveys the most recent graduates, six months out, and the College’s last seven graduating classes have achieved at least 95% success rates in gaining employment or continuing
their education. Complementing these alumni data is a recent study designed to assess the long-term value and ROI of a college degree, completed by Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce, which analyzed decades of IRS career earnings data for college graduates from 4,500 institutions nationwide. Albertus graduates, 40-years out, ranked in the top 10% for lifetime return on investment.
“We know that the education delivered by our faculty leading to degrees for Albertus students is excellent, but we embrace a spirit of continuous improvement at the College,” stated Albertus Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Sean P. O’Connell. “The stackable certifications and micro-credentials available through the Career eXcelerator program will only add further value to the College’s graduates in the years ahead. Albertus graduates typically stay in Connecticut, and now they’ll be equipped with additional, workplace-relevant skills, ready to add to the State’s
workforce and economic well-being.”
